CHAIRS

Abeba Aleka Kebede (She/Her)
Ethiopia
Abeba A. Kebede is a medical doctor with a masters in Global Health Delivery, Health Management track. And a passion for surgical equity and commitment to advance surgical care strengthening. Dr. Kebede has worked on projects in surgical education, pediatric surgery, trauma, and gender equity in surgery. As the former African Regional Lead for GEIGS (2023-24), she advocated for gender equity in surgery across Africa. Her expertise spans healthcare quality improvement, research, advocacy, and project management. She is currently a Community Resilience Program Officer at UNICEF.
Eilene Basu (She/Her)
India
Eilene is from India and grew up in Malaysia with a multi-cultural exposure. She is a medical doctor, currently pursuing neuroscience research along with mental health studies. She is passionate about providing healthcare to underserved populations and speaks six languages, which helps connect diverse communities. An active volunteer, she has held leadership roles in India and abroad, with multiple research publications. As an artist, her work has been featured in exhibitions, and she teaches art therapy. Her goal is to promote global, unbiased healthcare for all. She led the Western Pacific Regional Team at GEIGS from 2023-2024, where she played a pivotal role in advancing gender equity within global surgery.

Marina Reis de Oliveira (She/Her)
Brazil
Marina Reis de Oliveira is a 5th-year medical student at UFCSPA, Brazil, focused on promoting gender equity in surgery. She became involved with the Association of Women Surgeons' Student Chapter, serving as Co-Chair in 2023. Marina Reis de Oliveira has contributed to research and advocacy for gender equity in surgery, playing key roles within AWS-UFCSPA and the 2023-2024 GEIGS Advocacy Team. Focused on improving surgical care access in Latin America, she will serve as GEIGS Co-Chair in 2024-25. Marina is dedicated to raising awareness, advocating for equity, and shaping future leaders in surgery.

Rabbey Raza Khan is an aspiring physician-surgeon from Pakistan with a deep passion for Global Surgery and equitable healthcare access for underserved populations. He is an International Trainer in Disaster Medicine and has held various leadership roles across different organizations. Rabbey is also an enthusiastic researcher, a data science geek, and enjoys going for long runs in his free time.
